Odd News for Odd People- An Odd Austin Update 11/28/09

This update reports truthful news, unlike Fox:
-#3 ON DR. D-
-SHE’S ALWAYS A HILTON-
-MILEHICON 41 REPORT-
-MUSIC PROGRESS-
-MARSCON 2010-

-#3 ON DR. D-
The rockin’ gods of amazing-a-tude have allowed yet again for a rain of awesome to fall upon me as this month Vampires Suck (Feat. Devo Spice) is #3 on the Dr. Demento Show’s Top 10! Not only does this mean that I’m getting national radio airplay again, but it also means that I will more than likely (Hopefully) be in the good Dr’s year end Funny 25 countdown, which will be broadcast at the end of next month. Also, if you hadn’t heard, he also played ‘Vampires’ on his second Halloween show this year. Finally, we can show those weird Twilight fanatics that vampires on not in fact, sparkly, or driven to fallen in love with a silly mortal, but instead totally gangster. Thank you so much everybody who requested my song, please keep requesting VAMPIRES SUCK by ODD AUSTIN at http://www.drdemento.com/request for next month so we can insure that I make the year end countdown, thanks again!

-SHE’S ALWAYS A HILTON-
Hey, gang, guess what? I have just released a brand new parody that will be included on my upcoming second studio album (Tentatively titled, “Inconspicuous Explosion”, catchy, right?). The song is a parody of Billy Joel’s classic, ‘She’s Always a Woman’, titled ‘She’s Always a Hilton’. You can go get it for free right now at http://www.oddaustin.com, why donchya? Enjoy!

-MILEHICON 41 REPORT-
So, last month I performed at MileHiCon for the second year. You may recall that I released my debut album (Wrong Side of the Bed, available now in the online store at http://www.oddaustin.com/store.php) last year at the con. This year I released nothing new there, but I did have a great time. So I got there on Friday and unloaded my surprisingly massive amount of equipment for the show. I brought it all up to my hotel (You may think, but Austin, you live in Colorado, why would you get a hotel at a convention in the state you live in? I would respond: If you would’ve waited two seconds you would know). I got a hotel because I was going to be there the following day and didn’t want to drive the half hour back to my house, and all the way back the next day. So I talked with the people who run the place and started to set up my booth for CD sellings. My booth was placed next to the headliner for that night, and the dude I was to open up for, Marc Gunn, the Celtic filker. Around show time we went to do our sound check. It took a little longer than I would’ve wanted and thus I had to cut a song from the set list. Overall the show went pretty well, I was getting some good reactions from the crowd, and Patrick and I actually had stage presence for once! All in all it was a pretty rocking weekend. I made a nice amount o’ cash on CDs, we played a good show, I got to meet the Filkstar Marc Gunn, as well as a really cool SciFi writer named Rob S. Rice who gave me a copy of his CD, and finally, I got to meet Wayne Faust of the Dr. Demento favorite Faust and Lewis who invited me to be apart of his website http://www.picklehead.com, so it was truly awesome! Wow this section is long. Sorry…

-MUSIC PROGRESS-
I’m glad to be able to say that new songs are slowly existing. My EP that I mentioned on the last update, is nearing completion, and I hope to have it out by Christmas time, if not early January. I’m re-writing and re-recording stuff for the next album to make sure it’s top notch for you fine folks. So, things are moving forward much more than I could say for the last few months, but there’s still a considerable amount to do for the album before my self-designated release date arrives. Is there a way you can help? There sure is, when I do release my EP, I need every one of you to get it, the reason I’m releasing it is to help pay for the actual CD, so please buy it when it’s all done and its awesome has been unleashed.

-MARSCON 2010-
The very great the great Luke Ski has just announced the line up for next year’s MarsCon, and guess who’s gonna be there! That’s right! Steve Goodie! Oh, right, and ME!!! If you are unaware of the awesome that is MarsCon, it’s a Science Fiction convention held annually in Bloomington, Minnesota. When it comes to comedy music or as we like to call it dementia, this is pretty much the Super Bowl. It really is the largest gathering of comedy acts put together today, and I am very glad to have procured a main stage slot. Go visit http://www.marscondementia.com for a complete list of acts performing there, and visit http://www.marscon.org to buy your tickets today!

Finally, another update that no one cares about:
-REQUEST VAMPIRES SUCK-
-MILEHICON 41-
-STUDIO PROGRESS-
-INSIDE MY MIND-
-WHAT'S AN EP?-

-REQUEST VAMPIRES SUCK-
So, it's the magical month of October, so I would like to ask y'all to fall (Pun intended) back into the habit of requesting my song "Vampires Suck" on The Dr. Demento Show at http://www.drdemento.com/request, I can think of no better month for this track to re-appear in the good Doctor's Top 10, please help me out and go request it today!

-MILEHICON 41-
On October 23rd I'll be doing a concert at MileHiCon yet again. I advice that you come check it out, cause about 85 percent of the show we'll be performing is composed of unheard songs from the next album. Also, this was just confirmed, at the event I'll be opening up for the world's best Celtic filk musician: Marc Gunn (Formerly of the Brobdingnagian Bards). I'll surely enjoy sitting at my booth and watch him sell dozens of more CDs than me. So, don't miss the awesome that will be the Friday night of comedy music October 23rd at MileHiCon 41, I'm told my show will start around 7 PM. For more information visit http://www.milehicon.org

-STUDIO PROGRESS-
The album is coming along slowly in the recording process. Since the last studio update we have recorded maybe one new song, but we are hard at work on the mixing of it all. In fact I just hired a new fellow to mix and master the album, you guys might know him as Jace of Nuclear Bubble Wrap, but I like to call him "So did you get a chance to work on any of the new songs?", and I'm quite excited to get somebody who is doing the tame type of music in on the album. As far as writing goes, I have all but one track done. So we'll see if I can get it done by February like I'm planning.

-INSIDE MY MIND-
You might've heard of it already, but I just had a big fancy article put out in the Longmont Daily Times Call about me. You can check it out at: http://oddaustin.livejournal.com/7585.html, I've done a few interviews in the past, but this one was really cool. I got together with the reporter at my studio, Patrick, Ted, and I talked about the music, we performed Filler Song for them, than I had my first (And probably last) photo shoot, which they ended up using two pictures of (Weird).

-WHAT'S AN EP?-
So I guess now is as good a time as any to announce that I am working on a pre-album EP to help finance the album itself. This EP will be about 98 percent brand new material that will not be re-released on the album (I know! Awesome, right?). So it's not one of those rip-off, I'll wait until the album comes out to get the songs type of EPs, so when it's ready you really should get it, I've got a lot of songs recorded for it, and I hope to have it out by Thanksgiving or Christmas time.

<input ... ></input><input ... >

Coulton, Paul, Storm, and the Meaning of Life

Last night in Denver I saw Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm live. I thought they'd never come here, but apparently they had before. The show was to put it lightly, amazing cubed.

First up was Paul and Storm, their set was very well performed. Their harmony vocals are so great, your really have to know your lyrics to be able to do the stuff these guys do. They were really funny improving with audience, and they were pretty much the perfect Opening Band.

Then of course next was the legendary Jonathan Coulton. I had no idea one man with one guitar could rock so much. He plays some really complex chords which is hard to do on it's own, but all the while he's singing pitch perfect to it, INSANE! During the set Paul and Storm helped out with maybe a third of the songs on backing vocals.

Then after the show we waited for 15 minutes or so and the gang of musicians wandered toward the CD selling booth. Luckily before the show even began between us me and Patrick bought everything both acts had ever recorded, so their was much CD-age to sign. I talked to all o 'em, I talked to Storm about CD printings, I talked to Paul about Bofore Radio and about how every band is destined to hate their first album/horrible demos, then I talked to Coulton about his influence on us as an act, and where he's performed before.

So all in all, best night ever? Perhaps. It was a really good show, and it was great to meet so key inspirations of mine in person.

Loony Tunes- Inside the Mind of Odd Austin

Here's an article featured in the Longmont Daily Times Call newspaper on Friday, September 18, 2009:

Loony Tunes
Inside the mind of musical comedian Odd Austin

By Quentin Young
© 2009 Longmont Times-Call
LONGMONT — The All-American Rejects hit “Gives You Hell” opens with the line, “I wake up every evening with a big smile on my face, and it never feels out of place.”
Odd Austin heard that and sensed an opening. He came up with his own lyric, set to the same melody: “I got let go from Kinko’s, I punched my boss in the face. Apparently that’s not OK.”

The All-American Rejects song is about sticking it to an ex. Odd Austin’s song is about working at Taco Bell. Guess which one’s funnier.

Odd Austin, a Longmont resident, is a musical comedian. He’s a 17-year-old senior at Silver Creek High School, but already he’s scored some points in the world of comedy music. His songs have been played on the Dr. Demento radio show. He wrote the official theme song of Nerdapalooza, an annual “nerd gathering” that Odd Austin played earlier this year in Orlando, Fla. He’s released one album, “Wrong Side of the Bed,” and he’s working on a second. He relates that Nick Wheeler, guitarist for the All-American Rejects, contacted him about his “Gives You Hell” parody, “Taco Bell.” Wheeler’s thoughts: “Freakin’ hilarious.”

Odd Austin, born Austin Aeschliman, is not sure where he got his sense of humor. Members of his family are funny, he said, but added, “They’re not as weird as I am.”

Back when he was around 11, a friend played him the track that would first open his ears to comedy music. The song was “Yoda,” a parody of The Kinks’ “Lola” by “Weird Al” Yankovic.

“I just became an immediate fan of Al,” Aeschliman said.

Several years later an uncle exposed him to musical comedy acts such as Heywood Banks and Tenacious D. Aeschliman started filling notebook pages with his own lyrics. His first recordings featured karaoke tracks for background. He has since employed the services and home studio of Ted Wilson, a Longmont musician.

“His original stuff, he’s got a lot of good ideas,” Wilson said.

“Wrong Side of the Bed,” recorded mostly at Wilson’s place, features “Filler Song,” which could be the first-ever ode to stopgap music, and “Tom,” a tribute to Myspace co-founder Tom Anderson. A video on YouTube for “Tom” contains a shot of a church marquee that says “... and thus he spoketh, ‘All user pics must be taken in thine bathroom mirror.’ - Tom 3:16.”

Aeschliman started performing live for the first time a little less than a year ago. His friend, Patrick White, who is also a 17-year-old senior at Silver Creek, often performs with him, and collaborates with him on other projects, such as a comedy podcast www.oddaustin.com.

White said he met Aeschliman in first or second grade at Rocky Mountain Elementary School when White first moved to the area. One of White’s first impressions of Aeschliman came when their class was engaged in a group reading session.

“I remember we were reading a book, and every once in a while he’d just say ‘fart,’” White said. “We were pretty much friends from then.”

He said Aeschliman might be something of a class clown, but not the kind that annoys the faculty.

“All the teachers like him a lot,” White said. “He’s never obnoxious about it. He’ll make some witty comment, the whole class laughs, then we’re back on track.”

Aeschliman’s mother, Dede, said her son has always been a joker. She recalls his antics going back at least to when he was 5.

“He would go to the mall and stand like he was a mannequin,” she said. “He’s always been really creative. He started drawing comics when he was 4.”

A typical Odd Austin podcast features a wacky skit, an appearance by a recurring character called “the Geezer” and the Word of the Day, with the episode’s word used in sentences to assist with comprehension. A recent word was “truck,” as in, “My dad’s truck smells like old socks mixed with dry vomit,” or, “The truck exploded after crashing into the ambulance.”

The most recent episode included a spin of the track “Vampires Suck,” an Odd Austin original that features an appearance by New Jersey comedy rapper Devo Spice. The song crawls with self-consciously bad jokes.

“All of my dates are a total wreck, because the girls always say I’m a pain in the neck,” Odd Austin raps. Later he says, “Why’d a vampire give a girl a blood test? He wanted to see if she was his type.” Da-da-dum.

Odd Austin’s next live appearance is planned for Oct. 25 at Milehicon 41, billed as the largest science-fiction literary convention in the Rocky Mountain region.

He hopes next year to attend music school at the University of Colorado in Denver, and to make a career of music, even if it does not involve “Weird Al”-like stardom. He’d be happy as a studio engineer, he said.

In the meantime he’s gaining fans for his original songs, such as “Taco Bell,” in which he sings lines like, “Now I stand and grin like an idiot/I wear this itchy uniform made for 20 cents/Got your order wrong, well that really sucks/But if you complain then you’ll be wearing your meal.”

He has heard that employees of Taco Bell blast the song at work. “Which is really kind of sad,” he said.

Please, go request it at http://www.drdemento.com/request, artist name: Odd Austin, song name: Vampires Suck.

-AAR KNOWS THAT I EXIST-

I just got a twittering message from: Nick Wheeler. Nick is the lead guitarist for the multi-platinum rock band The All-American Rejects. You remember that AAR parody I made back in January, Taco Bell? Well, Nick sent me a twittering message letting me know that he thought the song was quote: “Freakin’ hilarious”. So, I have officially gotten contact with one of my parodied bands, AWESOME!!!! Jace of Nuclear Bubble Wrap told me that the only artist he has parodied that has contacted him was Hayley Williams from Paramore, which just goes to show y’all that alternative rockers are way nicer to their parodists.

-I REALLY WANNA SELL OUT-

…of the remaining copies of my debut album! SO, I’ve totally butchered the price in half! Get your copy of Wrong Side of the Bed today for just five measly bucks! I also have a nice variety of cool singles that just dropped slightly in price!

-POST NERDAPALOOZA-

So Nerdapalooza is officially all over, and I have to say, I have a severe case of Post-Nerdapalooza Depression (PND), I don’t even think this prescribed medicine will cure me: http://nerdapaluzin.com/. So I wrote a big giant report about the adventure I had to and from Florida for the event, which you can check out at http://oddaustin.livejournal.com/6833.html, I dare you to read the whole thing! So indeed it was awesome, same time next year?

-RYCEHAT RIDES THE SHORT SONG BUS-

My uber ‘awesome’ side project, Rycehat is in the works to produce an actual album! I know it’s about freakin’ time, right (Wrong)? The album will be a collection of short (Less than a minute) songs, 80 or more of them in fact. The album is called: Songs for the Average Attention Span, and will hopefully be out later this year, if not early next. I am releasing one song every week or so over at http://www.thefump.com over on the sideshow page. I’ll release 10-20 of these songs there before I release it.

-STUDIO PROGRESS-
It’s the same as last month (Sorry, sorry, sorry). It’s not due to lack of effort or lack of funds (Though that might end up being a reason in the end), I just don’t have anything to record right now, I need to get some stuff written before I can go back in and record. Luckily, I’m going in very soon to work on a new parody of an old song (What could it be, Austin?). See I got 20 free hours of studio time from my engineer, Ted Wilson to help him out with debut kids album (MySpace, and web stuff), the album is called “I’ve Got my Family” (Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/tedwilsonmusic for now till we get a real site). So I have 7 hours left, and I really need to plan it out so I don’t waste any of it. Time totally is money! But unfortunately it most likely doesn’t pertain to you dear reader, cause even if I get this song all recorded, it’ll only be released with the album early next year (Sorry), be excited however that we’re working on it (YAY!).

Nerdapalooza Report

So Nerdapalooza was this past weekend, and as I predicted it was the uberist of events. It was so awesome to get to meet Ian, Devo, and Luke finally. So since you care so much and I have nothing better to do. I'll tell you my Nerdapalooza experience keeping in mind that it wasn't as eventful or interesting as Devo or Ian's story.

I went to the show with my family, mom (Dede), g-ma (Barb), and uncle (Justin, the dude who does the stuff with the things on Pizza Guy). We left for the airport early on Friday. We took two guitars, my merch, one bag of clothes and other useless stuff, and something else that was made of matter. Our only carry on weighed 48 pounds, 2 off the amount before we'd have to pay a lot extra, so awesome! We went to a restaurant that was in the airport for some edible goods. We got on the airplane at around noon. This flight like many had to go to a place before it gets to the actual place. The weird thing was we had to go to Wisconsin. I know it’s going in the right direction, but it just seams strange to go north to get south. Oh well. My mom took a picture of the flight crew since she’s making a book of pictures from the trip. The ride was a few hours. I spent the time listening to my iPod that I just filled with new tunes. I listened to Perry Gripp’s epic short song album ‘For Those Who Shop, We Salute You’ in it’s entirety.

We got there at some point in time, I’m sure. Then I got a call from Ian, who apparently had missed not one, not three, not one hundred, but two flights, and had been at the airport in Maryland for several hours. Much laughter was had.

We got on the plane again finally on the way to Florida. Again I listened to music, and probably slept. The first time around I got to look out the window and see the awesome view cause I was at the seat near the window. This time around I was still at that seat, but the engine of the plane was unfortunately one the side of the plane and took up the view. I’m not certain, but I’m sure the manufacturing people for this particular model built it that way to specifically spite me. Jerks!

When we got off the plane, we grabbed our various stuff and walked around as we do not yet have the capability to teleport (It’s time to add a new feature to the iPod, Apple!). We got our 48 pound bag from the people who like to keep 48 pound bags for the duration of plane rides. At this point there was apparently no point in staying in the well air conditioned building that was the airport, so we ventured out side, where someone was to come and get us.

We stepped outside and immediately regretted it. It was so humid that I dropped some of my luggage. It would probably be better to wait for a car on the surface of the sun. Mostly cause at least it’d be over quicker. I saw while sitting a guy directing incoming vehicles outside the airport. I think that would have to be one of the worst jobs in the universe, to have to stand and direct traffic in blistering humidity all day, awful. So after a few minutes we got picked up by Nerdapalooza creator John ‘hexwarrior’ Carter’s girlfriend: Diana. She and I discussed all the acts at the event and general nerdiness while the fam sat in the back unsure what it was we were talking about. On the way there we saw the building for the Ripley’s Believe or Not Museum appropriately titled Odd-itorium. The building was built in a slanted fashion and looked awesome.

We got to the hotel after a surprising amount of time, thanked Diana, and walked in. The hotel was the Holiday Inn we went to room 7711. I cannot possibly describe just how good the immense anti-hot the room was. The cold felt so awesome. We set up everything for the weekend and then went out to dinner. We initially went to a place cleverly titled the Crazy Grill. They were… unique. There apparent plan was to take 3 or 4 piles of slop, put ‘em all together and serve it for $20. Then we taste it, and tell them which pile of slop doesn’t make us throw up. Then they’ll serve us more of that and charge again per person. So our obvious response was ‘Um… can you point us in the direction of a good restaurant’. He showed us into the normal burger place that was hidden in the same building for some reason. I do have to say that at least there name was accurate. At the good place we ordered stuff and I got word that Ian had finally made it to Florida after spending a little less then 10 hours in the airport.

I and the g-ma went back to the hotel, whereas the other two went to gander at stuff. After a little bit I went down to the lobby and met Ian. We talked about mainly stupid airplane related stuff. He had to wait for Devo and Luke to get there cause he was rooming with them and the room was in there name. I bragged about my smooth trip there in comparison to his obviously bad day, and probably sounded like a jerk. I went back to the hotel. Then an hour or so later my mom and g-ma told me to come outside. Just down the hall from our room was the legendary Devo Spice and Luke Ski, then… Ian. I went over, said hello, then went back to the hotel.

I went to bed cause I had to get up early to practice for my show which was to be at noon. I think I had a dream about a gorilla performing nerdcore. The next morning I got up at 8. I practiced my set for a while, and then at 10 Ian showed up to practice his parts. I went down to the building where the event was being held and gave my merch to the people there and had to count it so they could see how much I had sold at the end. At noon the event was supposed to start but they were running late. So at about 12:30 hex finally started the event with his opening address. Then I went on. To a raving crowd of maybe 30 people I performed my set with appearances by Ian on many of the songs, and Devo, Ian, and Luke on the first live performance of Vampires Suck. I think the show went pretty good. It felt strange however not having Patrick there. The big problem I had with it was we missed the two funniest parts of Filler Song, the celebrity hair line, and when we pretend to mess up. I guess I’m just too good to pretend I’m bad.

After the show I stayed to catch some new fans to tell me I did well. Signed a few things, the most memorable of which was a Guitar Hero guitar, after signing it I mentioned that he should get Insane Ian to sign it as he actually had a song about the game. Soon after it was Devo Spice’s set, which I was really looking forward to. He rocked it so freaking much. Devo is amazing, the set was perfect. After that I went to eat food, which I was holding the whole time Devo did his set. After that I went to the hotel for some sleep. I felt really tired for some reason. Then to get back at me for my earlier jerkitude Ian called me and woke me up from my half-slumber, and now I sound like more of a jerk for making it sound like an evil plan. I went back to sleep.

I unfortunately slept for a while so I got back to the event at 9 during I Fight Dragons set. During that I had to get water a lot from the bathroom (No drinking fountain!) since I was going through some sort of dehydration. I Fight Dragons was… loud, but good. You couldn’t understand there lyrics much, but I liked it.

Then I decided I should go buy the new album by MC Lars, This Gigantic Robot Kills, since I’ve heard from many people that it’s amazing. As the girl hands me the CD as I give her the cash, out of some sort of awesome nerd magic MC Lars himself suddenly appears right next to me. ‘You just buy my CD?’ he says. I’m still a little star struck that I’m standing next to such a legend. He sees my artist idea badge and asked if I performed there. I said ‘Yeah, I opened the whole thing’. He asked who I was, I pointed to my album which just happened to be right next to his. He apologized for missing my set, and signed my album I just bought, and graciously signed a second thing for my friend Stepheny.

The last three performers of the night were YT Cracker, MC Lars, and MC Fronalot. They all did amazingly. I personally enjoyed Lars’s set the most. After the show I went out into the artist and staff area and met MC Frontalot who was obviously tired from his set but still signed something for Steph. Then I left and went to the hotel for some sleep as the show ran 2 hours late and ended at 2 in the morning.

The next morning I got up at 11, and quickly left to catch the show, where they once again were running late. The first thing was the open mic, which was very, very awesome. The two I remember the most were MC Cool Whip who sang the song that I would pay 10 dollars to get a ring tone of about Helen Keller in space and MC Shammers (Or something like that), that did a cool song about Pokeman. After that was mCRT. His set was great, with many a private part joke. I had met him the night before, he told me that he had been one of the main supporters for getting me out there, so a huge thank you to mCRT! The next set I remember was Luke’s. He did awesome as well. This was the first time he ever performed with accompanying video. It added a nice touch to his already great set. His last song was Dementia Revolution that Ian, Devo, Lars, and I went up to assist him with.

After that I left for Universal Orlando, which I’ve been wanting to go to for many years. We went to take a trolley. The first two we tried to take said they couldn’t take us there. The third one didn’t come till a half hour later. The driver told us he could drive us there, we paid got on, and he took us 20 feet! What a jerk! We got off, and walked for a half hour till we got there. My feet were hurting already from all the standing at the show, and all the walking didn’t help. We got there and went on the 3-D Terminator ‘ride’. It was kind of lame, the next one was The Simpsons Ride. That one was AMAZING. You’re in a room sitting in a normal ride cart and all the walls light up with animation and the cart moves to make it seam like your on a ride, but really your not going any where. It’s a very mental ride. After that we went on the best ride ever, a ride called Disaster, a ride that was an apparent casting call for a disaster movie directed by some guy played by the hologram of Christopher Walken.

Disaster had 4 stages. One, a girl picks out the stars of the show. Then everybody but the ones they chose goes to stage 2. Here the hologram of the great Christohper Walken talks about the film. Three, you go to the filming area where they film the chosen stars doing stuff. Stage four you go to film something for the rest of the audience. You get on a bus and it crashes, much fire and water appears. Then they show you the trailer for the ‘film’ using the actual footage of the people there for it. Sounds amazing, right?

After a few more rides we had to go home. The thought of walking so far again sounded like torture so we got a cab back to the hotel. I have to say, it was indeed the best 5 dollars ever spent. Then I went back to the show and saw MC Chris. I couldn’t stay for his whole set cause it was getting late, as they were as mentioned before running late. I said goodbye to my comedy pals, and went to bed.

We got up, packed up all the stuff, then went to the airport and did it all over again. Our first flight went to Atlanta, the second went back to Colorado. The lady we were sitting next to was a nice old lady. It kind of sucked though, my iPod died (It’s been in need of new battery for a while, it costs a lot to replace though), and so was my laptop. So I just tried to sleep for the 3 hour ride. So now we’re back, and it’s kind of hard getting back into things. I’m sure you stopped reading a while ago, though I guess not if you’re reading this now, but I thought I’d talk about the coolest weekend I’ve had probably ever. I got to meet heroes of mine, and perform some where that’s not Colorado. I hope I can make it next year. See y’all at MarsCon.

More to come soon.

-STUDIO UPDATE-
So I've been recording for the second album in the studio and we have about half of it recorded! I have to send the tracks to Florida for mixing and mastering but I think this'll be a great CD. I feel as though the things I'm writing are funnier this time around, I think you guys should enjoy it. Don't get your hopes up yet though because we still have a ridiculous amount of work to do before we can call it done. I still have to write five more songs.

-THORTONFEST-
I have a concert this Saturday 5/16/09 at the annual city celebration in Thornton, Colorado cleverly dubbed Thorntonfest. This another battle of the bands, so I urge you all to come out a support me if you can make it. As far as I know it's FREE to get in! I'm also told that there will be 10s of thousands of people there. It's a huge festival with many other things to do then watch some bands, so come and stay all day, it'll be quite awesome.

-TWITTER/FACEBOOK-
So I finally have gotten a Twitter account! I've also had a FaceBook page for a while now, so you guys can go and poke me, friend me, comment, whatever you crazy kids like to do these days. You can find the links to these pages at http://www.oddaustin.com/links.php!

-NERDAPALOOZA CONFIRMATION-
I just have been confirmed to play at Nerdapalooza Southeast 2009! You might've heard I won this opportunity last year by making their officical theme. It lookes doubtful that everything would go through until just recently when the event runner John 'hex' Carter emailed me and said we were still on! Also performing at the event (I'm very, very excited to meet these guys!) Devo Spice, the great Luke Ski, MC Lars, mc chris and a plethora of other nerdy music acts. Also, if you're going this July, expect me and Devo to perform the song that Dr. D will be debuting live! Find more at www.nerdapaloozafest.com.

<input ... ></input><input ... >

Time for yet another update buckaroos:
-REQUEST THE BELL-
-MMA 2008 CHART-
-REVENGE INTERVIEW-
-NEW TRACK-
-QUARTERS-
-LAME JOKE-

-REQUEST THE BELL-
Hey guys, so ya know that song I released in January? Of course you do! Please, go request it on the Dr. Demento Show by visiting www.drdemento.com/request and filling out the form! I sent it to the good MD of Insanity a while ago but it has yet to be played, help it get there! You can now make your voice heard on the show (No really!) by uploading a recording of you saying your request. So please request, request, request!

-MMA 2008 CHART-
So after a 3 month hiatus one of my favorite comedy radio shows is finally back! The Mad Music Show hosted by Captain Wayne made its return this past Sunday with The Top New Songs of 2008 Chart. I'm very, very excited to say that my song Atari was the most requested song of 2008, not only that but Tom was #3! I also had my Tom Smith cover Can't Get the File to Play at #14, and Batman placed #30. Thank you all so much for the votes! Here's to more success in the future!

-REVENGE INTERVIEW-
So for the 3rd time I had a Revenge interview this past Saturday on DementiaRadio! As promised I dragged Insane Ian and TV's Kyle on with me and it was indeed a night of Intense Ubocity. We debuted 3 tracks; the first was one by me that you won't here again until the album so if you missed it then you missed out! The second was Kyle's new track First Track (On My Album) with me on guitar of course. The third was my actual debut The Misadventures of Dave an epic skit that's a style parody of the Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd. If you missed it, it'll have its podcast premiere on Kahn Man's Comedy Corner this Tuesday. Besides all that awesomeness, filk legend Tom Smith also showed up! It was indeed awesome.

-NEW TRACK-
So as mentioned above I have a new track that will be on my next album! This is an epic skit and style parody of the world's awesomest podcast: The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd. It features Grant Baciocco, Insane Ian, Devo Spice, Dino-Mike, AND TV's Kyle, talk about awesome guest star-age. If you missed the Revenge debut and it's re-run, then catch it this Tuesday on KMCC (As mentioned above, sorry if I'm making you read the same stuff over and over, I'll try to cut it out), and if you miss all that (C'mon, dude!) then it'll be up on The FuMP Sideshow soon after.

-QUARTERS-
So as you may or may not have heard, I'm now the official guitarist for the band known as TV's Kyle. I'm quite excited about this. For a year or so I've really enjoyed Kyle's addictively funny music, and now I get to be apart of it! Dreams to come true, kids (Sob, sob, sob). So the first album with me on guitars is called Pocket Full of Quarters and should be out within the year! Check out http://www.tvskyleband.com for info.

-LAME JOKES-
So I know this isn't news but I thought why not end with some lame jokes that my friend Nate told me? Here goes #1: Two potatoes are in a heated oven. One potato says "It's getting kind of hot in here, don't you think?". The other potato screams "Oh my god a talking potato!!!". Alright, not lame enough? Heres #2: Why is the cat on the ground? Because it fell out of the tree. Why is the bird on the ground? It was stapled to the cat. Alright that's all I got, layta!
<input ... ></input><input ... >

So I've been working hard in the studio, and I've got a new track! Now I say track because this isn't really a 'song'. I'm rather excited cause it's one I've been working on for a year or so now. So what could be cooler then getting to hear a new Odd Austin track? Well I'll tell you!

-It'll be world premiering on Revenge of the Particle on 4/4/09!

-If you missed it on Revenge it'll have it's podcast premiere the following Tuesday (4/7/09) on Kahn Man's Comedy Corner!

-It's a style parody of The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd

-It features 5 amazing guest stars from some huge dementia acts (Did some one say Grant Baccioco? No probably not, I mean really why would he be on an OA track?).

-On the Revenge premiere I will be dragging... I mean bringing Insane Ian and TV's Kyle on with me, they may also have songs to debut for you!

AS EXTRA INCENTIVE TO CHECK OUT EMI'S SHOW REVENGE OF THE PARTICLE ON WWW.DEMENTIARADIO.ORG, I WILL ALSO BE DEBUTING A NEW PARODY THAT WILL ONLY BE HEARD ON THAT SHOW!
Odd News for Odd People- An Odd Austin Update 3/11/09

Austin, tell me what in this months update! OKAY:
-REQUEST TACO BELL-
-BATTLE O' THE BANDS-
-STUDIO PROGRESS-
-RYCEHAT'S BACK-
-BOFORE BREAK-
-N3RDS0NGS-

-REQUEST TACO BELL-
Hey guys, so ya know that song I released about 2 months ago? Of course you do! Please, go request it on the Dr. Demento Show by visiting www.drdemento.com/request and filling out the form! I sent it to the good MD of Insanity a while ago but it has yet to be played, help it get there! You can now make your voice heard on the show (No really!) by uploading a recording of you saying your request. So please request, request, request!

-BATTLE O' THE BANDS-
So good internet pals I thought I'd tell y'all about what did go on at my concert tonight at the Silver Creek High School Battle of the Bands. It was great! There was an awesome band for every ear to shriek with joy at. A few bands I think deserve honorable mentioning that I thought were the awesomest were Bass Line, White Rice (Who did a Flight of the Concords cover), Ute Highway (Who changed there name, I forgot what the new one was), and Purple Panda Extravaganza for there awesome stage antics and banana costume. My set was pretty good, I'm proud to say that we're the only group that did an audience participation bit, and the only one that got a full house standing ovation. We played: Tom, Robot Cat (Logan Whitehurst Cover), (New Parody that shall remain unknown), and Filler Song. Alright, alright nows for what I'm sure you were all waiting for, THE PRIZES. I'm verry, verry proud to announce that I indeed won prizes, actually TWO, more then any one person received. I won: best Vocalist: 3rd Place (Gets me 2 free vocals lessons with a Dr. of the voice) and best Original Song: 1st Place (4 hours free studio time at my school's studio). So I am quite proud of us, I think it was a great show, every band was pure concentrated awesome sauce! I will certainly be trying to get in for the next year's battle.

-STUDIO PROGRESS-
So I'm sad to say we have not progressed much with this album since the last update, but I will say we got a new song all done! Well actually it's not really a song, but you'll have to hear for yourself in the near future. Let's just say it has some major guest star awesomness. I'm gonna try to get into the studio as much as I can seeing as I have a lot of work to do and very little time before Nerdapalooza and the CD mixing/mastering (That I'd like to have a full album to use for). In writing news I have about all the album written, 2 more originals and one more parody and I'll be done writing! I'm thinking you guys are gonna like what I'm writing, well stay tuned!

-RYCEHAT'S BACK-
So I know it's kind of shock that Rycehat hasn't had a Sideshow track in like forever, but don't worry 2 new tracks are hitting the FuMP next week! Now that I got this new mic, I intend to re-record most of the old Rycehat songs and releasing an album (Finally!), which I'm going to call (Drum roll...) UBER SHRUG!!! Don't get it? You will within the next week, so keep watch on the FuMP Sideshow!

-BOFORE BREAK-
So starting in the beginning of April, I'm taking a break from making shows for my podcast Bofore Radio. I just want to take a little break since I've pretty much been working on it every week nonstop for a year now. Of course I can't just have the show have absent episodes for a month, so I'm asking y'all to make some episodes for me. I need four guest episodes to be made. If you're interested post a message on the MMA forum post titled "Bofore Guest Episodes". Please help out with this guys. No need for great mic quality, any help is extremely valued!

-N3RDS0NGS-
So my buddy Insane Ian just released his rockin' new joint n3rds0ngs this past weekend at MarsCon. I got it on Saturday and I've been listeing non-stop, it's aweseom!!! I highly incourage everybody to go pick up a copy at http://www.insaneian.com! Oh and it features me! In the epic closing track, There's Something About a Zombie, with a slew of other amazing dementia music making folks.

Austin Makes The Paper

My friend Nate Maher just wrote an awesome news article about me in our school newspaper, check it out:

When Austin Aeschliman, aka Odd Austin, announced he was releasing his first CD, I was pretty ecstatic. A friend of mine is a published comedy musician? That’s pretty cool. Then one day, I’m invited to guest star in his Radio Podcast, “Bofore Radio.” (No, not Before, “Bofore.” Don’t worry about it.)

This made me pretty excited. “Bofore Radio,” with hosts Goose and Goblin, is a sound-only podcast featuring the best comedy music Austin can find. Found on www.themadmusicarchive.com, “Bofore Radio” is one of the many outlets for Austin’s love of comedic music, full of direct parodies (taking the instrumental part of a song but adding different lyrics), style parodies (a song that contains or makes fun of an artist’s style rather then a specific song), and completely original works of hilarity.

And so I arrive. I’m welcomed in the door by who I presume is Austin’s mother. She leads me to the basement while commenting that my hair should be “used as a weapon against Al-Qaeda.” For now, I take it as a compliment. Austin, plus his friend and co-host Patrick White, aka Goblin, are sitting at what seems to be a wooden desk, though it’s hard to tell with all the stuff on it. Two PCs, a laptop, what may or may not be a printer, an ungodly tangle of wires, and Austin’s cell phone (which will apparently serve as our microphone for the recording) were scattered around in an astoundingly functional disarray. Patrick had also set up his Xbox 360 for some reason, but we never managed to use it for anything. With an infinite number of snacks transported via grandmother, our work began. Nowadays, Austin uses a stylin’ new microphone and the whole process is pretty awesomely streamlined, but back in the day he was just a dude living a dream. With a cell phone recorder.

As it turns out, my part was cut out because it sounded like a screeching, mutant hawk that got partially run over. The cell phone couldn’t pick up any intelligible words, but I assure you it was funny. Funny, you see, is the name of the game: all of Austin’s works range from chuckle-inducing to downright hilarious, and no less.

From “Taco Bell” (parody of “Gives You Hell” by the All American Rejects) to “That 70’s Song” (parody of “1985” by Bowling for Soup), Odd Austin has written a flurry of songs and released a CD, and the lyrical genius rivals the greatest of comedic artists. He’s not limited to parodies either: songs such as “Filler Song” (my personal favorite) are 100% original in both lyrics and music.

He’s not some wannabe-nobody either. His song “Old People” (Parody of “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance) got on the Dr. Demento show. (If you’ve never heard of the Dr. Demento show, let’s just say that Weird Al owes his career to his first chance to be on it: it’s the aspiration of almost every comedy artist to make it there.) And Austin’s just a high school junior!

In addition to his radio podcast, Austin has his website, www.oddaustin.com. Featuring all the news about him I was too lazy to put here and more, oddaustin.com is, well, all about him. It’s quite possible that you’ll find this very article on the site, but I guess you may already know that if you are reading there. Best of all, you can even download some of his songs for free. Naturally, you’ll have to go to iTunes, CD Baby or get the CD itself if you want to listen to the rest. Elsewhere on the net, Odd Austin-related thingamajigs can be found on www.themadmusicarchive.com.

Oh, and because you’re wondering: his last name (Aeschliman) is pronounced “ash” (like from a fire) “li” (as in “limit” or “lid”) “men” (as in “mental”). Now get out there and buy his stuff!

-From the Silver Creek High School Newspaper, written by Nate Maher
Why tune in you ask? Well, this time I’ll actually be doing a News of the Stupid segment, and I’ll be recording it on my brand new eBay bought Blue Snowball USB Microphone, which makes for a freakin’ amazing sound quality compared to my terrible dead cow of a mic I had before. So check it out March 2nd!

-BLUE SNOWBALL-

As long as we’re on the subject let’s go over my new mic. So I’ve been wanting a good home mic forever now, I just never thought I could afford something in the sound range that I desired. After hearing a certain TV’s Kyle FuMP about Canker Sores I read the description and saw that he recorded it on his new Blue Snowball mic, I researched it and found it very affordable especially for the near studio quality I heard in the song. What does this mean? It means that now Bofore Radio and Rycehat won’t hurt your ears every now and then! It also means that I might be able to save oodles of money in the studio by recording vocals at home. It should get here on the 23rd or so, I can’t wait to test it out!

-BOFOREVIEWS-

So all March on Bofore Radio get ready to hear interviews with some of your favorite dementia artists! That’s right, four episodes with four great comedy acts. The people we will be interviewing on our annual interview month will be Insane Ian, Dino-Mike, TV’s Kyle and yet to be determined guest. Don’t miss it!

-STUDIO REPORT-

So on next album news, I have nine songs written for the next CD, and about 4 fully recorded and about 4 half way done. I hope you guys will like what I’m coming up with. I’m thinking that Taco Bell might be the lead single.

Actually I recently became the statistition for the show, which means I take the Weekly Top 5 and calculate the year end count down out of that. So I can tell you that Tom due to this is now #17 for the whole year! Help get it up the chart further by requesting "Tom by Odd Austin" to weirdnessanime@aol.com. Also over at the great parody site Badave.com my MCR parody Old People is #1 this week! Which really means something cause most often the site owner Below Average Dave (Badave) is #1 because he has ten times more parodies then any other parodist over there.

-FFM COMING BACK-

The original comedy radio podcast Freakin' Funny Music is coming back for a special holiday show this Decemeber, it's been more then two years since host Jake Waters has put together a show for this podcast. I recorded a small greeting for the show so do not miss it. When ever Jake gets around to posting it, it will be available at http://www.freakinfunnymusic.com, and find Jake's comedy music at http://www.jakewaters.com.

-BOFORE CHRISTMAS-

This Christmas my comedy podcast Bofore Radio is doing two, count 'em two Comedy Chrismtas shows jam packed with hilarious comedy awesomnessissity. The cool thing about this though is that these will be the last episodes of the whole year. Can you believe we've been doing the show for nearly a whole year? The last X-Mas show will be posted 12/12/08 unless I decide to put it off till Saturday, either way around that date. Then after that me and Patrick (Errr.. I mean Goblin) are taking a much needed break from the show (Well he doesn't really need a break, I'm the one who deos 80% of the work). We'll be taking a month or so off till mid-January where we will be celebrating the anniversary of the show.

-THANK YOU-

Well it seams like this will be the twelth and final news update for this year. I want to thank all you fans for all the support you've given me, allowing this year to be the most productive year I've ever had as a musician, because of you I got played on Dr. Demento, got 5 songs hit #1 on the DT20, released my first album, and became some one in the dementia world. That's all because of you, I can't thank you enough. As most of you know at the end of the month tons of comedy shows release there year end count down. Now I know there's no way I'm in the Funny 25 this year, but I believe I've got a chance at being in the DT20s year end count down, so definetly tune in at www.themadmusicarchive.com. I've been working on a new track that will hopefully be out early next year featuring tons of awesome guest stars, I can just feel that it's gonna be big. Thanks again guys, have a very merry Chris.... I mean holiday seas.... ah, there's no need to be too PC on my own site, Merry Christmas, y'all!!!!!

I will also be having a 45 minute show starting at 6:30 PM MT. Do not miss this if you are in the area!!! I will be playing music you've never heard from me, as well as debuting a song that is going to be on the next to next CD, is it a parody or an original? If it's a parody, what is it a parody of? Find all this out and more by coming to MileHiCon this Halloween! I also am told I will be participating in a 'Name That Song' contest at the con, come see me horribly embarase myself when I don't know the Imperial March (Just kidding, I love Star Wars!).

-RYCEHAT ON THE SIDESHOW-

My side project Rycehat has had several songs go up on the FuMP Sideshow recently, and I've been thinking about releasing an album on iTunes for the band sometime next year, I don't know, would you buy a Rycehat album? So to make sure he releases more stuff earlier you should certainly puck up a copy for 99 cents on iTunes today! Of course visit Al at www.weirdal.com
I got the final master a few weeks ago, and can't stop listening to the songs on my iPod. I just posted the brand new (And highly improved) album cover, and the official track listing on the Wrong Side of the Bed album page here on the sitttte. This of course means that the album will released very soon, I'm thinking a mid-October release. It would be earlier but I've got to account for the three weeks of pre-orders I wanted to have. I've got a few things to work out first, like printing and CD Baby, and then I'll start pre-orders. I'm even thinking about releasing the album on October 25th, at Mile-Hi Con (More details below). So get your wallets ready, for the CD that's been in the making for six years (Believe me, I want it release way more then you).

-ANNOUNCING MILE-HI CON-

I just got booked at my very first Sci-Fi Con, Mile-Hi Con 40! I will be performing a half hour show, including songs you've never heard from me, so if you want to hear it then come check it out if you're near the Denver. Colorado area, more details at their website at www.milehicon.org. As I mentioned in the above news segment, I'm thinking about releasing the album at Mile-Hi Con, just an idea, if so be sure to come!

-DT20 UPDATE-

I've finally stopped dominating the charts over at the Mad Music Dementia Top 20 (Which I'm glad in a way about, more room for those that haven't gotten the chance to place yet). Though luckily I've had at least one song in the chart for the past few weeks, That '70s Song hangs on to a spot for the past two weeks (Which was my most recent song to hit #1 twice, which I think I forgot to mention on my last few updates). If you'd like to see me more on the chart go vote on themadmusicarchive.com (Sorry, had to do it). I'm so glad to be apart of this community and to have these fans who get me on the charts. THANK YOU!!!

-BOFORE BATTLES-

If you didn't know, I am in fact Goose on the comedy radio podcast Bofore Radio. Actually the name, is an inside joke between me and Patrick (The guy who plays Goblin, and obviously band back-up vocalist), see Patrick has awful hand writing, so one day he wrote some thing with 'before' in the sentance, I thought he wrote Bofore, so I made fun of it and it was a legend. So we named our show after it. Any way the point of the news. We just finished voting on our battle medleys and I encurrage you all to listen at www.gcast.com/u/boforeradio/main.

I’m still in the process of changing all of my websites which will be a huge pain, but overall I think it will be easier, not having to tell some one how to say it every other day. This means of course that the Atari- Single is the only product printed under the Odd Austin Aeschliman name, so get one of the few remaining copies! Also, this means that on your iTunes, change all the songs you have under Odd Austin Aeschliman to simply Odd Austin (Do it now, yo!).

-WEIRD AL CONCERT-

You may have noticed I was uncharacteristically offline for five days this week. On the regular chart, the rankings are what DJ Particle describes as chart dominance. At #3, my song Atari makes yet another appearance on the chart (It’s 14th week in the top 10!), at #2, Old People shows up again at this position (And it’s 7th week in the top 10!), and coming in at #1 (Drum roll please….) Batman (It’s first appearance in the top spot!). This is the first time I’ve ever had three songs in the Top 5 before! Now for the half year chart! On this Top 25 of 2008 (So far), I have three songs as well. Coming in at #21 is Old People, at #17 Tom (Demo Version), surprisingly comes back to the chart, and the #1 song of the entire year of 2008 so far, ATARI! One week, two shows, six Odd Austin songs, two Odd Austin #1’s! I have officially been announced the Dementia Top 20’s Top Artist of the Year (So far), with more #1 songs (4, actually) then any one else on the archive. This album features 42 unique songs that cover various great Tom Smith songs such as I Want To Be Peter Lorre (the great Luke Ski), Domino Death (Sudden Death), Sheep Marketing Ploy (Worm Quartet), Dead Again (Possible Oscar), and many, many more!!! This album also features, hmm ME! Yes, I am very proud to say I got to help out Tom by putting a cover of 'Can't Get The File To Play' on this album. If you would like to get it, go to http://www.partiallyclips.com/tomsmith and donate ANY AMOUNT and receive the link to download every song!!! This is an absolutely great deal for all of these songs, donate $12 (Or any amount of your choice) and get 42 songs. All of money (Besides PayPal fees) goes directly to the recovering Tom Smith.

-LONGMONT ADVOCATE INTERVIEW-

I just had an interview on the Longmont Advocate Podcast with my friend Chris Rodriguez which can be found on iTunes or www.longmontadvocate.com just go to the June 22, 2008 Show, and next week I have an interview with Goblin on Bofore Radio!

-NEW SKYPECAST-

Me and Chris co-hosted a Skype-Cast last Saturday, which you may or may not have heard of. We have about 2 songs left to record, but even more to mix and master. I'm thinking a mid-August release is the most realistic option. Also, we might be getting a new member in the band soon. I'll talk more about it later if it happens. Anyway, see you on the next update!
But if you would rather not crowd up your room with actual matter, may I suggest downloading the songs from the single, all of the songs just went up for sale at The Mad Music Archive, again go to the Atari Single page on this site and click the Download link.

-STUDIO PROGRESS-

In the studio we have eight songs finished for the album and hope to be all mixed and mastered by the end of the month. This will hopefully mean that there will be a July or August release date, but nothing is set in stone.

-FUTURE INTERVIEWS-
If you did in fact listen to the Revenge Interview and want to hear more interview material with me, you're in luck! I will be having several interviews to promote my CD over the next month or so, I have recorded one for Longmont Advocate and Bofore Radio, and have received commitments from The Mad Music Show and Wandering Geek, the latter being most likely being a fall interview, making it after the album release. If you want to book an interview with me, please by all means email to oddaustin@gmail.com! Who knows what other interviews I'll have, if everything goes through, I'll be on Comedy Music Cellar, and maybe even a David Tanny podcast (We'll see). Piece out, home bros. (Yes I know I spelled 'peace' wrong, or at least in the context people usually mean when they say 'Peace out', I was more thinking about a piece of pizza or pie, ah randomness, perfect for the few people who actually read every word of this News Update, thanks for sticking around!)
